The Minister for Communications, Marine and Natural Resources, Noel Dempsey, as today appointed Peter Cassells as mediator in the Corrib gas project dispute.

Describing Mr Cassells as a "very well respected figure in mediation and industrial relations in Ireland," Mr Dempsey said he hoped this mediation process will "help to reach a solution which will be acceptable to all."
It has been agreed that Mr Cassells will have access to and support from the Mediators Institute Ireland.
Peter Cassells is a former General Secretary of the Irish Congress of Trade Unions from 1989 to 2001 and one of the main architects of the Social Partnership Agreements.
