AN ACTION by the owner of an equestrian centre who claims a right of way through the Ashford Castle estate allowing access to his property has been blocked was considered by a judge in the High Court yesterday.

Timothy Clesham, owner of Ashford Equestrian Centre, claims his business has been damaged because a gate on the estate close to the castle has been locked, blocking his normal route to the centre, over which he acquired a right of way about 20 years ago.

Mr Clesham, Caherduff, The Neale, Co Mayo, has brought proceedings against Ashford Castle Estate Ltd and Ashford Castle Properties Ltd, owners of Ashford Castle estate, which went into receivership earlier this week.

He has sought injunctions, pending the full hearing of the case, restraining obstruction of a right of way created by a deed of conveyance entered into between himself and Coillte.
