LONDON - A Catholic cathedral is to be reported to the taxman over secret payments to its former musical director.
The payments came to light at an industrial tribunal brought by a musician, Joanne Connaughton, who claimed Sheffield Hallam Diocese discriminated against her by paying her male replacement nearly double her salary. Yesterday Miss Connaughton, now a music lecturer at Northumbria University, won £10,000 in an out-of-court settlement with the diocese.
