CCTV system for Limerick

Limerick is to get 27 new closed-circuit television cameras

Limerick is to get 27 new closed-circuit television cameras. The system is being funded by the Department of Justice to combat crime and to monitor traffic problems. It will be put in place within the next six to 12 months.

The system will augment cameras already in use in O'Connell Street. The cameras will impact on traffic flow and law-and-order problems, said Chief Supt Noel O'Sullivan. Gardai will monitor the televisions 24 hours a day and will be able to react more quickly to crime and traffic problems.
