Centrica has announced an agreement to purchase the entire output of the Braes of Doune wind farm from Airtricity- the Irish renewable energy company.

The 72MW project is currently under construction and will consist of 36 2MW turbines on a site area of almost 1,000 acres.

The new facility, located in Stirlingshire is expected to come online during autumn 2006.

The output from Braes of Doune is capable of supplying 46,000 British Gas customers with green electricity and will contribute to meeting 6 per cent of Centrica's overall renewable target for 2007/8.

Airtricity's Chief Executive, Eddie O'Connor, said: " We are delighted to have completed a deal for the output of our Braes of Doune facility with such a prestigious organisation as Centrica plc.

"As a company, we are interested in developing joint ventures to help facilitate the strong international growth of the company. Currently, we are developing in Scotland, England, the US and looking at developing further joint ventures in China."

Airtricity currently supplies renewable electricity to over 45,000 commercial customers in both the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland and is developing wind farms in the Republic of Ireland, Northern Ireland, Scotland, England, and the United States.
