All-Ireland football champions Kerry top the list of nominees for the Vodafone GAA All Star awards with nine nominations.

All-Ireland football champions Kerry top the list of nominees for the Vodafone GAA All Star awards with nine nominations.

Brothers Marc and Darragh O'Se, Tom O'Sullivan, the recently-retired Seamus Moynihan, Aidan O'Mahony, Sean O'Sullivan, Paul Galvin, Colm Cooper and Kieran Donaghy are all selected.

Donaghy is all but assured of his inclusion in the 2006 team following a magical season to remember.

Discovered on the 'Underdogs' reality television show, the full forward caused endless headaches for opposing defences as he plundered score-after-score during a powerful debut campaign.

Leinster champions Dublin receive eight nominations.  Centre back Bryan Cullen enjoyed a superb campaign and will feature prominently on many shortlists while veteran forward Jason Sherlock could also figure following his impressive return to form.

Six players from the Mayo side humiliated in the All-Ireland final are included in the list following a string of stirring performances prior to that spectacular collapse.

It remains to be seen, however, will that one performance sway the judges but defender Keith Higgins could feel particularly hard done by if he was to be overlooked.

Two members of the Longford attack are, somewhat unexpectedly, included in the selection with Paul Barden and Brian Kavanagh both receiving nominations for the first time.

Armagh's Steven McDonnell and Paul McGrane as well as Kerry's 'Gooch' Cooper are the only three members of last year's All Star team in contention for back-to-back awards.

The county breakdown is: Kerry (9), Dublin (8), Mayo (6), Armagh (5), Cork (5), Donegal (2), Laois (2), Offaly (2), Longford (2), Westmeath (1), Fermanagh (1), Galway (1), Derry (1).

The final selection will be announced on November 22nd and the awards will be presented at the annual gala banquet in Dublin on November 24th.
