Dublin restaurant Chapter One has been voted the best restaurant in Ireland for the second year running by the Restaurant Association of Ireland.

The Michelin-starred restaurant on Parnell Square beat off competition from Rosso Restaurant in Dundalk, Vina Mara in Galway, the Olde Post Inn in Cavan, and the Wild Geese Restaurant in Limerick to take the top award.

Chapter One, the only northside Dublin restaurant with a Michelin star, also took the award for best chef for its head chef Ross Lewis.

Raymond McArdle of The Restaurant @ Nuremore, Co Monaghan, and Dylan McGrath of Mint Restaurant, Dublin, were also nominated in this category.

The best newcomer award went to The Mill restaurant which opened last September at Lyons Demesne, Celbridge, Co Kildare.

The Mill is the first Irish venture by London-based celebrity chef Richard Corrigan.

The Indian restaurant Kinara in Clontarf, Dublin, took the best ethnic restaurant award, while the restaurant with the best wine list was The Four Seasons Hotel in Ballsbridge, Dublin.

The best seafood restaurant award, sponsored by Bord Iascaigh Mhara, went to Fishy Fishy Cafe in Kinsale, Co Cork, which has already been awarded seafood restaurant of the year in Georgina Campbell's Ireland guide.

The most stylish restaurant in the country, voted by the readers of Image magazine, was Saba, a Thai and Vietnamese restaurant which opened on Dublin's Clarendon Street last year.

Viewers of TV3's Ireland AM breakfast show voted The Schoolhouse on the Grand Canal, Dublin, as Ireland's best gastro-pub.

The awards, sponsored by Jacob's Creek, were presented at a ceremony in the Westin Hotel, Dublin, yesterday by RTÉ television presenter Gráinne Seoige.
