A MAN has been charged with assaulting a Garda sergeant during a stabbing incident in Donegal over the weekend.

John Boyle (46), Lek Cottages, Letterkenny, appeared before the vacation sitting of Mullingar District Court charged with four counts of assault causing harm to four men, including the Garda sergeant.

Garda Sgt Eunan Walsh said Mr Boyle, who is also charged with possession of a knife at Lower Main Street, Letterkenny, made no reply after charge yesterday. He was released on bail to appear at Letterkenny District Court on September 15th.

A file is to be sent to the Director of Public Prosecutions and Judge William Hamill heard there may be additional charges.
