The Premier League have rejected Charlton's claim that the Stamford Bridge pitch which hosted their 4-1 defeat against Chelsea last month was played on an artificial surface.
The Addicks filed a complaint after suggesting the beach-like surface - onwhich barely a single blade of grass could be found - contravened the rules.
But after receiving submissions from representatives of both clubs and thematch referee, Mike Dean, an inquiry convened by the Premier League has deemedthat the result will stand.
The inquiry accepted the referees' assertion that the surface was playable.
However, the Blues were deemed to have broken Premier League rules governingconduct between clubs - specifically their lack of communication with Charltonregarding the state of the pitch in the week leading up to the game - and werehanded a £5,000 fine, plus costs believed to be £2-3,000.
Charlton had demanded a replay "on grass" with even Chelsea boss ClaudioRanieri labelling the pitch "a beach".
Chelsea had laid down a six-inch sand base on the Friday before in preparationfor the complete relaying of the pitch after the game.
