Racing:Today's hurdling and bumper action at Limerick has been given the go-ahead — but the two chase races have been abandoned.
Sub-zero overnight temperatures meant an 8am inspection was required, from which the outcome was generally positive.
The chase course, due to stage the final two heats of the day, became, however, a victim of frost.
Irish Turf Club press officer Cliff Noone said: “The chase track has failed to thaw so they’ve pulled the plug on those two races.
“Instead it is a five-race programme, with racing still set to start at 12.35pm.”
This afternoon’s meeting at Leopardstown, meanwhile, was been given the go-ahead following a morning inspection.
Officials at the Dublin venue needed to assess conditions as a severe frost had been forecast.
And although overnight temperatures plummeted, the fixture was still given the thumbs-up.
“Everything is fine and racing goes ahead,” reported Noone. “It definitely got cold overnight, but there are no problems and the ground remains yielding.”
Day three of Leopardstown’s Christmas meeting features the Lexus Chase at 2.35pm.
