Last night's meeting of the GAA's Central Hearing's Committee (CHC), established to discuss the cases of eight hurlers facing suspension for their part in a pre-match scuffle, was adjourned until Monday evening.

The eight hurlers, four each from Cork and Clare, now face an anxious weekend sweating over potential suspensions that could rule them out of crucial championship games in the weeks ahead.

The hearing was adjourned to allow committee members consider all evidence in relation to proposed sanctions arising out of the Cork v Clare Munster hurling clash at Thurles almost a fortnight ago.

The CHC met at Croke Park to discuss the cases of Donal Óg Cusack, Seán Óg Ó hAilpín, Diarmuid O'Sullivan and John Gardiner from Cork and Colin Lynch, Alan Markham, Barry Nugent and Andrew Quinn from Clare.

The one-month suspension proposed last week by the Competitions Control Committee (CCC) would, if applied, rule the Cork players out of their Munster hurling semi-final against Waterford on Sunday week.

The Clare players would, in turn, miss out on their first All-Ireland qualifier on June 30th, as the suspensions also carry an automatic one-match ban.

The CHC is chaired by Armagh's John O'Reilly.  He is joined by Teresa Rahill, Pat O'Neill, Gerry Mahon, Bob Honohan, John Heaphey, Pat Dunny, Bernie O'Connor, Paddy Joe Ryan and Joe O'Boyle.
