The five Meath players that have received eight-week ban for their part in the fracas with Dublin at Parnell Park will contest the sanctions in front of the GAA's Central Hearings Committee tomorrow night.
Goalkeeper Brendan Murphy, defenders Shane McAnarney, Seamus Kenny and Niall McKeigue and midfielder Nigel Crawford are set to miss championship games against Carlow (May 18th) and, should the progress, Wexford on June 1st.
Their three teammates, Darren Fay, Caoimhin King and Peadar Byrne, have accepted the four-week bans meted out to them after the NFL division two fixture that Dublin edged by a point.
On Friday night Dublin's Tomas Quinn, Paddy Andrews (four weeks each), Diarmuid Connolly and Bernard Brogan (eight weeks) had their bans upheld by the CHC.
The CHC's decision can be contested through the Central Appeals Committee.
Meanwhile, GAA president Nickey Brennan has apologised for the mix-up that resulted in Wexford captain Colm Morris being awarded the wrong trophy after his side beat Fermanagh in the NFL division three final at Parnell Park yesterday.
Brennan presented Morris with the O'Byrne Cup after the game instead of the league cup, which was presented to Offaly captain Ger Rafferty in O'Moore Park, Portlaoise, after his side won the division four final against Tipperary.
"There was a mishap and it was just a packaging error," said Brennan today. "It shouldn't have happened and we apologise to the counties concerned and we will get the matter rectified during the week."
