Racing: This afternoon's meeting at Chepstow has been abandoned due to a frozen track.

Overnight temperatures dipped to around minus-two degrees, which led to clerk of the course Tim Long's initial 8am check proving inconclusive.

A second inspection yielded the same outcome, which was followed by a third look at 10.30am. And although temperatures improved marginally throughout the morning, Long was left with no choice but to abandon the seven-race meeting, which was scheduled to begin at 1.30pm.

"We just haven't had enough rise in the temperature," explained the Chepstow clerk of the course.  "We've had cloud and mist and it's just not shifting enough."

Chepstow's abandonment also deprived racegoers the opportunity of seeing the unfortunate Racing Demon in action.  Henrietta Knight's leading Arkle fancy, who is unbeaten on his two chase starts to date, was set to line up in the Letheby & Christopher Novices' Chase at 3.10pm.
