The Irish carers of child victims of the Chernobyl nuclear disaster may have to return home later this month from Belarus leaving the children behind in a Belarussian orphanage, it emerged yesterday.
Last Monday, the carers, along with the seven children, flew out from Shannon Airport to Minsk hoping that they would be able to return with the children in a matter of days. They made the trip after the children were ordered to return to Cherven orphanage by its director by November 1st.
However, yesterday it emerged that it may take over three months before the authorities in Minsk make a decision on the children's future.
