Gardaí are investigating the death of a one-year-old girl in Waterford, after she drowned in a garden pond.
It is understood that the incident took place at about 6.45 pm on Saturday, in the Dunmore Road area of Waterford.
The baby girl is believed to have been at celebrations for a First Holy Communion with her family when the tragedy happened.
A garda spokesman said an investigation was being carried out into the circumstances surrounding the incident, but said the child's death was not being treated as foul play.
The girl was taken to Waterford Regional Hospital where a post mortem was due to be carried out yesterday.
