When the flaming of a baked alaska went tragically wrong, a hotel waitress was set on fire and later died in hospital, Dublin Circuit Civil Court has ben told.

Judge Dominic Lynch was told that in the Killiney Court Hotel on July 25th, 1996,

Mrs Pauline Henderson, of Glenavon Park, Loughlinstown, Co Dublin, suffered burns to 63 per cent of her body and later died.

Mr Alan Doherty, counsel for Mrs Henderson's family, said the court was being asked to rule on a £34,620 childcare claim by Mrs Henderson's daughter, Avril, whose son, Tadgh (8) had been cared for gratuitously by the late Mrs Henderson.

Granting a decree for £45,817, Judge Lynch adjourned the proceedings for mention next month to facilitate agreed division of the award among the late Mrs Henderson's dependants.
