The Beatles are to reform – but the line-up this time will most likely consist of James McCartney (Paul’s son), Sean Lennon (John’s son), Dhani Harrison (George’s son) and either Zak or Jason Starkey (Ringo’s sons).
This unlikely Beatles Junior band was given the green light by James McCartney yesterday when he told the BBC “I’d be happy to do it. It’s the will of God, nature’s support, I guess. So yeah, maybe.”
McCartney added that he had already discussed The Beatles Juniors with Sean Lennon and Dhani Harrison, saying “Sean seemed happy to do it. Dhani seemed to be into it.”
The only sticking point, according to McCartney, is Zak Starkey. “I don’t think it’s something that Zak wants to do,” he said. Maybe Jason (Ringo’s other son and also a drummer) would want to do it. I’d certainly be up for it.”
McCartney is a musician in his own right. Apart from playing on his father’s albums he has also released a couple of EPs and last night he played a gig at Liverpool’s famed Cavern Club – where The Beatles played their early shows.
Sean Lennon, Dhani Harrison and Zak and Jason Starkey (all now in their 30s and 40s) are all accomplished musicians, while Zak has drummed with both The Who and Oasis.
