Former Northern Ireland Secretary Mo Mowlam would have been proud to have a children's park dedicated to her in the Stormont Estate, her partner John Norton said yesterday.
As politicians gathered at the Assembly on the second day of their bid to revive devolution, children mingled with circus clowns and played on swings and slides during the official opening of the Mo Mowlam children's park.
Following the unveiling of an ornamental stone in memory of the minister who died in August last year, Mr Norton said he was moved by this latest tribute.
"She was very committed to children here - she saw them as the future for Northern Ireland and wanted them to come together," he said.
The event was attended by the Northern Ireland Secretary Peter Hain, Assembly Speaker Eileen Bell, Baroness May Blood and former Women's Coalition Assembly member Jane Morrice.
