London - Children at a London leisure centre had a lucky escape yesterday when acid leaked into an indoor swimming pool, Luke Holland reports. An estimated 250 litres of hydrochloric acid was being used in maintenance work at Peckham Pulse Health and Leisure Centre when fumes escaped.
Thirty people, mainly children, were taken to hospital suffering from fume inhalation and eye injuries. "None of the injuries seemed to be serious", said a police spokeswoman.
