Beijing - China offered no clue to its favourite in the US presidential race yesterday but urged the winner to stick to commitments on the divisive issue of Taiwan.
"No matter who is the next US president, we hope he can regard and handle China-US relations with a statesman's vision," a Foreign Ministry spokesman, Mr Zhu Bangzao, told a news conference.
China has not commented officially on the candidates, citing a policy of non-interference in other countries' internal affairs, and state media have published only dry, factual reports on the campaign.
