Maidstone - The 58 Chinese immigrants found dead in the back of a lorry at Dover and the two survivors had frantically tried to kick open its rear doors when they realised they were suffocating, a court heard yesterday.
One of the survivors, Mr Su Di Ke (20) said panic gripped the immigrants halfway through their five-hour ferry crossing from Zeebrugge in Belgium, and they screamed and shouted for someone to let them out.
He eventually fell unconscious and woke up in Dover.
The other survivor, Mr Ke Shi Guang (22) burst into tears when asked about the journey.
He said he had tried to help other passengers that were struggling to breathe.
The 60 immigrants seeking a better life in the West had banged on the side of the lorry container, but no one answered them.
