Paris - The Archdiocese of Paris yesterday denied British press reports that a Catholic priest had given the last rites to Diana, Princess of Wales after her fatal car crash in the French capital on August 31st.

The archdiocese said Father Yves Clochard-Bossuet, the chaplain on duty at the La PitieSalpetriere hospital when she was rushed there after the high-speed crash, had prayed for Diana's soul and kept a vigil by her dead body until an Anglican priest came.

But it said in a statement the priest did not administer the last rites because the princess had already died.
