On Wednesday evening the Minister for Arts, Heritage, Gaeltacht and the Islands, Ms de Valera, will officially open the new treasury in the crypt of Christ Church Cathedral, Dublin.
This permanent exhibition in the recently renovated medieval crypt fulfils a long-held aspiration by the cathedral and has been made possible by the generosity of Christopher and Heather Sheil.
For the first time visitors to Christ Church will be able to see some of the cathedral's treasures which have for long been locked away from public view. Among these will be medieval archives such as the Liber Niger and Liber Albus, early printed prayer books and sermons.
The restored tabernacle, which was used in Christ Church during the return to the Roman Catholic liturgy under James II, is balanced by the stunning pieces of silver gilt which were presented to Christ Church by William III as an act of thanksgiving after the Battle of the Boyne.
There will also be a display of some of the best of Dublin church silver from the parish churches which were associated with the cathedral.
A short film, commissioned from Louis Marcus, introduces the exhibition, which has been designed by Orna Hanley Architects. The theme is worship, the raison d'etre of the cathedral.
Today the worldwide president of the Mothers' Union, Mrs Trish Heywood, begins a tour of Ireland in Taney parish centre.
On Monday she will visit Galway and Skreen and on Tuesday will be in Derrylin. Derry and Raphoe dioceses will host a festival service on Wednesday and there will be a civic reception in Dungannon on Thursday. The visit concludes with meetings in Belfast on Friday and Saturday.
The Limerick, Killaloe and Ardfert Diocesan Synod will be held today in Killorglin, and the Connor Diocesan Synod will take place on Thursday in Broughshane.
Tomorrow RTE will televise parish communion with the congregation of Zion Church, Dublin, where the rector is the Rev Wilbert Gourley. The chaplain of Trinity College Dublin will preach in St Paul's Church, Covent Garden, London, while the preacher at the installation of the Rev Paul Mooney as Precentor of St Edan's Cathedral, Ferns, will be the Dean of Waterford, the Very Rev Peter Barrett.
The tercentenary of Marsh's Library will be celebrated at Evensong in St Patrick's Cathedral, Dublin, where the address will be given by Canon Muriel McCarthy, Keeper of the Library.
In St Bartholomew's Church, Dublin, at 7 p.m. the choir will give a concert in aid of the organ restoration fund.
On Wednesday evening at 6.30 p.m. there will be an organ recital by Mark Shepherd, Director of Music, Wycombe Abbey School, in St Patrick's Cathedral, Dublin. In Gorey, the Bishop of Cashel and Ossory will institute the Rev Mark Hayden as incumbent and on Thursday the Bishop of Clogher will institute the Rev Stephen Crowther as Rector of Lisnaskea.
In the Royal Irish Academy on Thursday evening a new book on Jeremy Taylor, the 17th-century Bishop of Down and Connor, will be launched by the writer John McGahern. Wisdom and Wasteland. Jeremy Taylor in his Prose and Sermons Today is the work of the Longford-based authority on Taylor, the Rev Dr T.K. Carroll, and is a volume in honour of an earlier Taylor expert, the late Archbishop McAdoo, who contributed a foreword to Dr Carroll's Jeremy Taylor.
Selected Works which was published in 1990 in the Classics of Western Spirituality series has become a classic in itself, and his new volume, published by Four Courts Press is eagerly awaited.
