Customs officers seized 680,000 cigarettes at Dublin Port yesterday. The cigarettes, valued at £105,000, are believed to have been destined for the Dublin street market.
The contraband was concealed in an articulated truck fridge unit. Officers from the Investigation Bureau also seized the truck, valued at £50,000. The driver, an Irishman in his early 30s, was questioned and later released. A file is being sent to the Director of Public Prosecutions.
The truck had come from Poland via Britain. The seizure took place as a result of co-operation with European customs authorities.
