Latest figures reveal Cork has welcomed over 730,000 visitors to its European Capital of Culture events so far this year.
A review of Cork 2005 figures show increased attendance at cultural institutions and an increase in visitors to the city compared to the same period last year.
More than 80 projects were examined - translating into 562 individual events that spanned theatre, architecture, music, sport, visual arts, film, dance and literature.
The review also focused on residency and community-based activities that resulted in 28,000 people participating in more than 514 creative workshops in the city.
Director of Cork 2005 John Kennedy said that the record attendance is indicative of the great response to the Cork 2005 programme, locally and internationally.
"The city is enjoying the economic as well as the cultural benefits of the European Capital of Culture designation and is currently experiencing an unprecedented busy summer period," he said.
Cork airport has also seen increased traffic so far this year. "Half yearly figures are up 15.9 per cent on the same period last year," said Cork Airport Authority chairman Joe Gantly.
