Limerick's bid to host the Gay Games in 2018 would showcase Ireland as a welcome and open country and attract thousands of visitors, the group behind the bidding process has said.
Limerick, along with Amsterdam, London, Paris and Orlando, submitted bid books to the Federation of Gay Games by February 28th.
The Limerick group said the games would attract in excess of 10,000 participants and more than 15,000 spectators in August 2018.
The Limerick bid book outlines how it would deliver the 32 sporting events and a multicultural festival.
Press and communications director of Limerick 2018 Cillian Flynn said Limerick had the facilities and the infrastructure to host the games.
"While it looks like we are up against stiff competition from the other bidding cities, we believe that Limerick has the facilities, the infrastructure, the desire and determination to be successful in the bidding process and deliver an event that Limerick has never seen before."
