One hundred and fifty teenagers from the UK and the Republic will be given a civic reception by Dun Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council tomorrow to mark the opening of the annual Friendship Games.

The games take place in Dublin over the bank holiday weekend. A cross-Border initiative begun in Dublin in 1994, the Friendship Games are designed to promote understanding and friendship through sport.

Previous games have been held in Bangor, Co Down, in 1995, and Chester in England in 1996.

While here the youths will attend a swimming gala in DIT Kevin Street on Saturday morning before meeting the Lord Mayor of Dublin, Mr John Stafford, at the Mansion House.
