Claims by independent grocers that Tesco has been misleading consumers about price cuts have been rejected by the advertising watchdog, Paul Cullenreports.
The Advertising Standards Authority of Ireland rejected claims made by RGDATA, representing grocers, about the extent of Tesco’s price-cutting campaign.
In a decision on a complaint made by RGDATA, the watchdog backed up Tesco’s assertions that it cut the prices of over 12,500 goods last year. RGDATA had claimed that advertisements run by the UK-owned multiple were misleading and inaccurate because many of the claimed price cuts related to items not previously stocked, but substitutes imported from the UK.
