A 60 year old Co Clare man was killed in a hit and run incident when he was struck by a car near his home on Sunday night. Mr Thomas Keane of Kilrellig, near Carrigaholt, was hit near his home at 7.15 p.m.

It was the second hit and run accident over the weekend and follows a similar tragedy when a 19 year old man was hit by two separate cars which failed to stop on the Naas dual carriageway.

Gardai are still seeking witnesses into the incident in which Paul Delaney from Virginia Heights, Tallaght, was hit by a car while out walking with his girlfriend, Ms Shirely Lynch, on the southside of the carriageway between Kill and Johnstown in Co Kildare. He was thrown into the centre of the dual carriageway where he was then struck on the legs by a second car.

Mr Delaney was transferred yesterday from Naas General Hospital to St James's Hospital in Dublin, for treatment of facial injuries. A spokeswoman in Naas said his injuries were not life threatening.
