The Cork born mountaineer Pat Falvey yesterday began the final leg of his quest to climb the highest mountain in each of the seven continents.
Mr Falvey (39) has left for Tierra del Fuego, Argentina, where he will fly in a converted Hercules aircraft to the base camp at the 17,000 foot Mount Vinson in Antarctica. It is expected he will reach the mountain summit, never climbed before by an Irishman, on January 20th. Mr Falvey became the first Irishman to place a Tricolour on top of Mount Everest in May 1995.
