Seven Irish Everest summiteers became “goodwill ambassadors” for Nepal at a conferring in Dublin at the weekend.
The seven were invited by the Nepalese ambassador to Britain and Ireland, Dr Suresh Chandra Chalise, as part of celebrations for Nepal Tourism Year 2011.
Some 19 Irish people have successfully climbed the world’s highest mountain, the first being Belfast architect Dawson Stelfox as part of an all-island climbing team in May 1993.
The seven were selected for having climbed from the Nepalese side of the 8,848m peak.
