A Clonmel man was charged with the murder and robbery of Mr David Nugent at a special sitting of Cashel District Court, Co Tipperary, yesterday.
Mr Anthony Buck (22), Garrymore, Clonmel, was charged with the murder of Mr Nugent between 11 p.m. on July 8th and 1 p.m. on July 9th in the grounds of St Joseph's Hospital, Cooleens, Clonmel.
He was also charged with Mr Nugent of £750 cash, one gent's wallet valued at one pair of Nike runners at baseball cap at £5 and a leather belt at £10, with a total value of £825.
Mr Buck was arrested on Sunday evening and detained overnight in Cahir Garda Station. He arrived in court under heavy Garda security shortly before 4 p.m., and pulled a white shirt over his face to shield himself from waiting photographers.
Inside the court Supt Dick Burke said he had charged Mr Buck with the murder and robbery earlier that morning. In reply to the first charge, Mr Buck said: "I will be pleading not guilty." In reply to the second, he said he would be pleading guilty. When he told Judge William Hamill he was unemployed he was granted free legal aid.
Judge Hamill remanded Mr Buck in custody to Clonmel Court until Friday.
