A Dublin man convicted of violent disorder outside Anabel's nightclub at the Burlington Hotel in August 2000 has lodged an appeal against his two-year sentence.
Lawyers for Seán Mackey (23), of Foxrock, Co Dublin, yesterday lodged his appeal against his sentence for violent disorder, imposed by Judge Michael White earlier this month. No appeal was lodged against the conviction.
Mackey was also charged with the manslaughter of Brian Murphy following an incident outside Club Anabel in August 2000 but a jury at Dublin Cicuit Criminal Court failed to agree on that charge. The DPP said later that he would not be seeking a retrial on the manslaughter charge.
Mackey is the second person to lodge an appeal arising from the events outside Anabel's.
Lawyers for Desmond Ryan (23), of Cunningham Road, Dalkey, last week lodged papers for his appeal with the office of the Court of Criminal Appeal.
Ryan was acquitted of the manslaughter of Mr Murphy but convicted of violent disorder. He was jailed for nine months but the sentence was deferred to May 31st to allow him take his final examinations in agricultural science at University College Dublin.
