A Cork city GAA club was yesterday refused leave to seek a High Court order quashing the granting of planning permission for more than 200 houses on a site which the club had sought to develop as a pitch.

Garran na mBrathar GFC said it needed six acres for a playing pitch. It said a field at Mount St Joseph's, Blarney Street, Cork, which had been used as a playing pitch, was an ideal location for the club.

However, a Bord Pleanala inspector had found that the club's ground problems were a matter between it and Cork Corporation and said there was no evidence that the site at Mount St Joseph's was ever used for public playing fields.

On January 19th, on foot of the inspector's report, Bord Pleanala decided to grant permission for the housing development.
