A man from Northern Ireland who was working on a pier development on Tory Island, off the Co Donegal coast, was found dead yesterday. The body of Mr William McDonald (54), a married man from Carnlough, Co Antrim, was spotted floating in the sea close to the pier. It is thought that he may have fallen from a boat on which he had stayed overnight. An Air Corps helicopter transported the body to Letterkenny General Hospital for a post-mortem examination. Gardai said that they do not suspect foul play.
Residents of the island gathered in the local church last night to offer prayers for the man, who had been working there for two months.
