Soccer: Joe Cole will be out of action for two weeks following the hamstring injury he sustained in Liverpool's 1-0 win over Bolton on Sunday, meaning he will miss the visit of his old club Chelsea to Anfield on Sunday.

The England midfielder was assessed by the Melwood medical staff and the results of the scan have indicated he will face a brief spell on the sidelines.

Dr Peter Brukner, Liverpool's head of sports medicine and sports science, said: "The scan confirmed Joe has sustained a hamstring strain. It is not a serious injury but still means he is likely to be out for two weeks."

Liverpool boss Roy Hodgson has backed Cole to make a quick return from his injury and recapture the form that saw him become one of the hottest properties in Europe.

"There have been flashes of quality - notably the ball he produced for (Fernando) Torres in the win over Blackburn," said Hodgson. "I think Joe has done well in that he is so committed, he works his socks off and he wants to do well here.

"He is a quality player. But we haven't seen the best of him. Absolutely not. There is more to come from him and he knows that."

Chelsea manager Carlo Ancelotti expects Frank Lampard to be available for the game. The influential 32-year-old England international has missed the club's last 11 matches with a groin injury.

The Blues have maintained their fine form even without Lampard, but they have now received a shot in the arm ahead of Sunday's mouth-watering trip to Anfield.

Ancelotti is ruling Lampard out of featuring in Wednesday's Uefa Champions League clash with Spartak Moscow but the Italian is relishing having the creative midfielder back among his ranks, stating he is likely to come straight into his starting XI.

"Lampard started training with the team last week," explained Ancelotti. "I don't think he will be ready for Wednesday but for the next game in the Premier League against Liverpool.

"I hope he will come back quickly because we need to have this kind of player - he is a fantastic player. Now the team without Lampard is doing very well. But when he comes back I think we will have him straight into the team.

"We have a lot of games, we have a game every three days and all the players will be involved."
