The mudslide brought tonnes of rock and mud crashing onto the village of Mistrato, in the coffee-rich region of Risaralda, some 155 miles  northwest of the capital Bogota.
Rescue workers said they were searching for six missing people after a mudslide destroyed some working-class homes in the city of Manizales, 100 miles west of Bogota. Neighbours said up to 12 people were missing.
Torrential rains across Colombia have caused havoc in some villages and flooding in many cities, including the capital, Bogota.
There were no reports of the rain causing damage to the coffee industry. Colombia is the world's second-largest coffee producer.
