The three Irishmen on trial in Colombia have been moved from their prison in Bogota to an unknown destination, a spokeswoman for the Bring Them Home Campaign said last night.
Neither their lawyers nor the prison authorities knew where the so-called "Colombia Three" had been taken. "We are very worried," Ms Caitríona Ruane added.
Mr James Monaghan (56), Mr Martin McCauley (40) and Mr Niall Connolly (36) were being held in La Modelo prison, pending the resumption of their trial in early February on charges of training the country's FARC rebels in bomb-making and with using false passports.
"We would like to know where they are. The lawyers have already been in touch with the prison authorities, tomorrow they will be trying to verify their whereabouts. We are calling on the Irish Government to continue its efforts to locate the men," Ms Ruane said.
She had last spoken to Mr Connolly when he telephoned her from the prison on Saturday but an expected call from him last night failed to materialise.
When the defence lawyers contacted the jail, the officer in charge confirmed that they were moved yesterday but did not know where they had been taken.
The move had taken place while INPEC, the official Colombian state prison authority, was closed for the weekend.
She had spoken to Mr Agustin Jimenez, one of the defence lawyers, and he had been unable to verify the location of their three clients.
The Irish Embassy in Mexico which also looks after Irish interests in Colombia had been unable to ascertain their whereabouts.
