Stockholm - Leaders of Colombia's main Marxist guerrilla force and government officials said yesterday they were moving towards a lasting peace settlement in unprecedented talks in Sweden.

Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC) commanders and Colombian officials were meeting for a second day at a secret location in the Stockholm area to study the Swedish model of economic and social development as part of a peace plan.

At least 17 people died in attacks by left and right-wing gunmen in Colombia yesterday, including a six-year-old boy killed by a car bomb detonated by suspected FARC rebels. Police said the worst bloodletting occurred in a rural area of north-west Antioquia province.
