The Broadcasting Commission of Ireland announced today that it is to award in principle a new television contract to Muglins Broadcasting trading as Channel 6 for a ten year period.

The entertainment channel will provide movies, drama, comedy and music and is aimed at the 15 to 35 age group.

The contract is being awarded further to Section 41 (Cable-MMD Content) and Section 36 (Satellite Content) and of the Broadcasting Act, 2001.

According to the BCI the new channel will also show local programming on matters exploring aspects of modern Irish culture.

The service will broadcast initially for 12 hours per day Monday to Friday and for 15 hours Saturday and Sunday.

The new service will be part of the basic television subscription package on the NTL and Chorus analogue and digital platforms.
