Tuxtla Gutierrez - Whole communities in Mexico's southern state of Chiapas may have been buried under mud after a week of torrential rain, the national broadcast service, Televisa, reported yesterday.
Showing images of scores of houses submerged to their rooftops in tonnes of mud, Televisa said that only half of the 10,000 inhabitants of Valdivia had so far been accounted for since the rain ended last weekend.
After five days of rain on Chiapas's Pacific coast, a death toll of least 121 was reported, with an estimated 30,000 homeless.
