If you love chemistry or even if you don't but love the Internet then enter the Chemistry on the Web competition organised by the Republic's section of the Royal Society of Chemistry, which carries a prize fund of £1,100.
The competition is designed to promote a public understanding of chemistry, according to Dr Patricia Ennis of the RSC here. Students are asked to design a web page that explains a chemical concept such as bonding or exothermic reactions, but everything must be understandable to the general public.
There are three prizes, £500 for the best student entry, £500 for the best school entry and £100 for the best teacher entry.
The prize fund is sponsored by the RSC, Loctite, Yama nouchi and SmithklineBeech am. The deadline for entries is March 15th, 2000, and further information and entry forms are available by writing to Dr Ennis at the Chemistry Department, DIT Kevin Street, Dublin 8, or by e-mail at patricia.ennis@dit.ie

THE University of Limerick will host a two day workshop for the KidsLab Collaborative Project this Wednesday and Thursday, December 15th-16th. KidsLab is a world wide interdisciplinary group of experts in the areas of design and technology in early learning, and includes staff members of UL's Interaction Design Centre.
They will discuss research into the use of sensor technology, biomechanics, sound design and linkage systems between perception and action, all as applied to learning. Many of these systems are particularly suited to special needs children. More information about KidsLab is available at the website: http:// www.idc.ul.ie/kidslab/
