An Air France supersonic Concordeairliner bound for New York lost a piece of its rudder in flighttoday, but still landed safely and on time at itsdestination, the airline said in a statement.

Air France said a technical investigation was under way.The incident comes a week after an Air France Concorde onthe same route made an emergency landing in Canada after one ofits engines malfunctioned.

Air France and British Airways - the only airlines tooperate the supersonic jets - grounded their Concorde fleetsafter an Air France Concorde crashed on take-off from Paris onJuly 25, 2000, killing 113 people.

The Concorde entered service in 1976 and Air France andBritish Airways have 12 of the planes still flying in total.
