Temperatures have begun to rise around the country thawing out some of the snow and ice left by the recent bad weather.
This afternoon Met Éireann said although the freezing weather has not ended it will be less cold next week.
Today outbreaks of snow will continue across the southern half of the country leaving accumulations of 3-5cm before moving northwards later.
Temperature increases along the east coast of three to four degrees means snow will fall as sleet or even rain. There will be highs today of between -1 degrees and +4. Outbreaks of snow tonight will gradually peter out and it won’t be as cold as previous nights.
Apart from a few wintry showers tomorrow will be mostly dry with similar temperatures to today. Next week is expected to be less cold with much less snow.
National road temperatures are also starting to improve but AA roadwatch warn that compacted snow and icy conditions still remain around parts of Connaught and Leinster.
Secondary routes are particularly bad.
Dublin airport is operating however there are a number of delays and cancellations on many flights.
Cork, Shannon and Knock airports are open and not reporting any major delays.
Passengers are advised to contact their airline before setting out for the airport.
Bus Éireann said the vast majority of services are operating albeit some delays however services between Dublin-Limerick are cancelled for the moment due to conditions on the Naas Road.
All Dublin Bus services are operating although some routes are restricted.
UCD has also announced it will close its Belfield and Blackrock campuses tomorrow for health and safety reasons.
