LARNACA A British woman denied in a Cyprus court yesterday that she had insisted her HIV positive boyfriend did not wear a condom when they made love. Ms Janette Pink (45), of Basildon, Essex, claims Mr Pavlos Georgiou negligently gave her the Aids virus during their 18 month affair.

Ms Pink was subjected to tough questioning by counsel for Mr Georgiou, Mr Tassos Economou. Mr Economou said his client had told him that Ms Pink had "preferred sex to food". Ms Pink, who has claimed she was sexually naive before the 18 month affair, denied this. Mr Georgiou is charged with negligently committing an act that could possibly transmit the infection of a disease dangerous to life under legislation introduced in Cyprus in the 1950s and originally intended to control the spread of typhoid and cholera on the island.

The trial was adjourned until today.
