A Dublin man accused of murdering another man confessed repeatedly to having shot the victim in the head, a jury was told yesterday.
Summing up in the trial of Mr Shay Wildes at the Central Criminal Court, Mr Tom O'Connell SC, prosecuting, reminded the jury that they witnessed a "graphic record" on video tape of Mr Wildes confessing to the shooting of Mr Joseph Cummins.
"Few juries have that opportunity to see the accused make his confession on television. You have seen the record. He repeatedly confessed the crime to different members of the gardaí who interrogated him," counsel said.
Not once during his time in custody, Mr O'Connell said, did Mr Wildes "resile or withdraw his statement that he was the gunman who killed Joseph Cummins".
Mr Wildes (35) of Corbally Park, Blessington Road, Tallaght, denies the murder of Mr Cummins (48) of Donomore Crescent, Tallaght, on December 26th, 2001. The trial continues today.
