Irish online education firm Riverdeep said today in its results for the second quarter that it had significantly beaten analyst expectations "on both the top and bottom line".

The company said it remains "extremely comfortable" with consensus estimates for the next several quarters and that it is committed to achieving profitability in 2001.

Pretax losses widened to $13.9 million from $5.4 million in the same period last year - bringing the six-month loss to $34.93 million from $20.70 million.

Turnover rose 472 per cent in the second quarter to $11.87 million - bringing first-half turnover to $16.72 million from $4.5 million last year.
