The Friends of Connacht Rugby have handed in their letter of protest to the IRFU after staging a demonstration against proposals to disband the province as a professional entity.
Despite the postponement of a specially convened IRFU committee meeting to discuss Connacht's future, today's meeting went ahead as planned with organisers claiming that almost 1,000 people marched from Baggot Street to IRFU headquarters on Lansdowne Road.
A scheduled CIÉ train carrying 300 protesters, including many from the Connacht squad, arrived in Dublin this afternoon and several hundred more demonstrators made their way from Connacht independently.
After assembling outside Searsons pub on Upper Baggot Street at 3.30 p.m, the protesters marched to 62 Lansdowne Road where they delivered a letter of protest and petitions containing thousands of signatures to the IRFU.
A demonstration and rally is currently taking place at Lansdowne Rugby Club where the crowd will be addressed by some keynote speakers who have lent their support to the campaign.
