There is speculation within Offaly this evening that former inter-county footballer Richie Connor is being lined up to replace Paul O'Kelly at the helm of the senior team.
Connor, Offaly's All-Ireland winning captain when they last lifted Sam Maguire in 1982, has previously had a stint managing Laois in the late 80s.
O'Kelly was sacked as manager at a meeting of the county board last night, just eight months after he was appointed, and apparently against the wish of the county panel. Jim Buckley, the Offaly football secretary, tendered his resignation in protest at the decision.
