Bricklayers, carpenters and other craftworkers in the building industry are holding a special delegate conference tomorrow to consider withdrawing from national agreements for the sector. The delegates are expected to vote for a more aggressive campaign for better working conditions, early retirement and improved pensions.
The Building and Allied Trades Union is at odds with other unions and the employers over the Registered Employment Agreement and has sought a judicial review of the current agreement. The conference is expected to sanction unilateral action by BATU if the differences are not resolved by August 20th.
